💽 » Erika de Casier - Sensational
r&b, pop, soul • 13 songs • 42 minutes
Portuguese-born, Denmark-based Erica de Casier took me by surprise with her recently released sophomore album Sensational (2021). It’s a perfect blend of nostalgic 90s R&B with contemporary electronic production. At the same time that it will make you think you’ve heard it before, it will still sound extremely fresh and fun. The album, largely written and produced during 2020’s lockdown, surrounds the majority of its themes on single women and dating, borrowing a lot from de Casier’s own experiences, which helps to make the lyrical content both personal and easily relatable at the same time. If you like (and miss) artists like TLC and Destiny’s Child, I’m pretty sure you’ll have a great time listening to Sensational.

📺 » Fleet Foxes - Featherweight
Featherweight is the latest single from Fleet Foxes’ Shore to become a single and get an incredibly beautiful music video. Directed by Sean Pecknold, (Foxes‘ own) Robin Pecknold’s brother, the video consists of a masterful work of stop-motion, done by Eileen Kohlhepp, who worked on Charlie Kaufman’s 2015 incredible Anomalisa. A true work of art where every paused frame could easily be hanged up on the wall.

📺 » half·alive - Make of It
The Americans of half•alive continue to impress me with the use of contemporary dance in their (always great) music videos, as well and at their live performances. In their own words, “Make of It” is a story in which worlds not only interconnect but bleed into one another in a messy display of beautiful-humanity“. Pay attention to this name, while they continue to be a relatively under-the-radar band!
