💽 » The Surface, by Beartooth
rock, metalcore • 11 songs • 37 minutes
Last month I got to see Beartooth live, and that experience reminded me how much I enjoyed their 2023 album The Surface, not only one of my favorite albums of last year, but also I can’t remember the last time I related to the lyrics of an album as much as I did with this one. Originally focusing their sound on metalcore and lyrics dealing with the battling struggles of depression and other hardships, their latest album saw a pretty drastic change in sound but even more in the lyrical content, all thanks to lead singer Caleb Shomo’s personal journey in recent years. The Surface brings so much positivity to the table that it’s not only impossible not to be affected by it, but even more importantly it brings such a fresh element for a genre so full of clichés. Here’s to hoping that more bands will be positively influenced by them!
🎶 » A Love International, by Khruangbin
From their upcoming fourth album ‘A La Sala’ (out April 5th), Khruangbin's latest single A Love International is exactly what the name suggests: a beautifully crafted summer soundtrack, paired with a beautifully shot music video that captures the vibe perfectly. Khruangbin got on my radar through their 2020 release Mordechai and their later collaboration with Leon Bridges on the EPs Texas Sun and Texas Moon, and I can’t wait for the full album in a couple of months!
🎶 » Chasing The Drum, by Yussef Dayes
And the project A Colors Show continues to provide us with incredible performances over and over again. For this one, English drummer Yussef Dayes delivers a mesmerizing performance of the single Chasing The Drum, from his acclaimed album Black Classical Music (2023). A true eye/ear candy for any drummers and music lovers out there!

Musubu Hagi is an illustrator who takes visual cues from Tenobe glass, a traditional hand-stretched glass made by craftsmen in the 18th and 19th Centuries, creating a sense of obscurity in artworks which, in turn, hopefully allows the viewer to interpret them more freely. I love a bit of Khruangbin!! Thanks for sharing the new single!
