💽 » <COPINGMECHANISM>, by Willow
alternative rock / pop-punk • 11 songs • 29 minutes
For her 5th studio album, multi-faceted Willow (fka Willow Smith) took the pop-punk presented in her previous record Lately I Feel Everything to the next level, blending the currently trending (again) genre with some very interesting 90s indie and alternative rock influences.
It took me a few tries to finally get through the whole album and, once I reached the last track, all I wanted was to listen to the whole thing again. When Copingmechanism came out, I not only had extremely high expectations, but I also thought that the whole track list was going to follow the same direction as the first amazing few singles previously released, and to my surprise that didn't happen.
In many ways, Copingmechanism feels like a natural sequence from its predecessor, but sonically, it’s a much more interesting work that makes you wonder what Willow will present us with next.
🎶 » Doce Delírio, by Dingo
From their recently released third studio album A Vida é Uma Granada, Doce Delírio was one of the singles that announced a new era for Brazilian pop-rockers Dingo, after recently changing their name from Dingo Bells. But besides the new name, the essence of the band continues intact. Beautiful instrumental and vocal harmonies influenced by alternative pop, jazz, and psychedelic rock, combined with lyrics full of existentialist and philosophical topics of everyday life.
🎶 » Anywhere But Here / Animal, by PVRIS
PVRIS is an American band that started as a promising trio blending rock with elements of synth-pop, electronic music, and post-hardcore, which in recent years became officially a solo project of multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer Lynn Gunn. On what seems to be the announcement of an upcoming new album (still TBA), they released two new singles combined into a short film, where we get to see Lynn exploring two very different sides of PVRIS. I’ve enjoyed the band since its beginning, and I’m excited to see what will come next!
