💽 » Whatever The Weather – Whatever The Weather
electronic, ambient • 11 songs • 46 minutes
Ever since I came across Lo-Fi Hip-Hop (the genre) a few years ago, electronic ambient music has become my go-to type of music to have it playing in the background while I need to focus on an important task in front of me, especially when that task involves creative writing of some sort.
After releasing 3 albums under her own name, UK producer Loraine James is back with a self-titled debut album for her new project Whatever The Weather, which has been on loop here since it came out just a month ago.
Different than the music she was producing before, more focused on experimental dance music, Whatever The Weather is a deeper exploration into more atmospheric beats full of great experimentations on an album that wanders around throughout lots of different moods. The eleven tracks are named after temperatures, and the first single 17ºC got one of the coolest and most hypnotic music videos I’ve seen this year!
🎶 » Sigrid - It Gets Dark
Sigrid is a Norwegian singer-songwriter that got lots of attention with her debut album Sucker Punch in 2019. 3 years later and she’s about to drop her sophomore record How To Let Go next Friday, from which the great single (and video) It Gets Dark was taken. She also recently released Bad Life, a collaboration with UK rock band Bring Me The Horizon. It’s simple pop music but that, for some reason, doesn’t feel fake or oversaturated like so many out there.
🎶 » Bartees Strange - Heavy Heart
English-born, US-based Bartees Strange is currently one of my favorite singer-songwriters out there, and I think he should be on your radar too. After the amazing debut Live Forever (2020), he’s back with a couple of excellent new singles and just announced that his new album Farm To Table will be out June 17th.

🎬 • Greig Fraser's cinematography was undoubtedly the best thing about the new Batman. It took me a long time to get into the movie, but the third act is definitely worth the (very) slow build-up.
🎨 • Speaking of visuals, I’m looking forward to attending Nate Kadlac and Salman Ansari’s live event on how to use Procreate to draw visuals for your newsletter and articles. Sign up for free here. (not sponsored)
💅🏼 • Thanks Greg Osei for recommending this awesome performance that Rosalía did on TikTok to promote her new album Motomami. Great use of the platform and resources!
