Hello and welcome to Shuffle Sundays, a weekly curated list of content I thought was worth sharing with more people. Today we’re checking the nominees for the Oscars 2021, the first tv-series from Marvel to officially integrate their cinematic universe, listening to some 70s’ inspired music being produced today, and getting inspired by surrealistic landscapes created with mixed media. Hope you like it!

🎬 And The Oscars Goes to...
{something to look forward to • award ceremony}
Last Monday were announced the nominees for the 93rd Academy Awards with not many surprises, but a few interesting choices. From the movies nominated for the main category (Best Picture) I still have 2 to watch it (out of 8), but so far my favorites remain Sound of Metal and Nomadland (already recommended on issues #2 and #9). I’d be ok with any other movie winning, as long as it’s not Mank, one of the most pretentious films I’ve seen recently, sorry if you liked it.
As I did when the Golden Globes were announced, I just released a page I created using Notion, to track all the movies competing in all the categories. Click here to download it or here to read more about it.
📺 WandaVision
{something to watch • tv series, 1 season}
I fell in love with WandaVision from the very first episode, but since the episodes were released on a weekly basis, I wanted to wait until the very last one before recommending the series here. It’s the first Marvel tv-series to be officially part of the MCU (their cinematic universe), with the storyline taking place right after the events of the last Avengers movie. It starts as a delicious spoof of old tv sitcoms, and slowly introduces characters, elements, and situations from the MCU. At the end of the series, those more familiar with the recent Marvel films will definitely have had a better experience, but the fun and beauty of WandaVision is to easily communicate with different generations and still be able to please both the newcomers and the hardcore fans.
🕺🏻📺 Silk Sonic - Leave the Door Open
{something to watch/listen to • music video, 4min}
When I’ve heard that Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak were joining forces and starting a new band, I instantly knew that something great would come out of it, and to my surprise, the first single is even better than I was expecting. Leave The Door Open is a throwback to the 70’s soul and R&B era and it only gets better after each new listen. Whether the upcoming debut album (to be released later in 2021) will follow the same style or be more upbeat, similar to what both artists recently explored individually, we’ll have to wait and see. But it’s just impossible not to get excited about it. The music video is equally great, full of colors and style from the period, without looking artificially forced or full of cliches. The duo also delivered a great performance at the Grammys last Sunday.
⚡️ Something to Inspire
{mixed media}
Bernarda Conič is a Slovenia-based artist known as Nibera, who mixes analog and digital photography, collage, graphic design, and animation to create landscapes that blurs realism with abstractions in a colorful and surrealistic way. Check her website and Instagram for more. Here are some favorites:
