Hello and welcome to Shuffle Sundays, a weekly newsletter with music recommendations to help you find your next obsession.
This week we’re listening to one of my most anticipated albums of the year, discovering a Japanese band that will blow your mind, listening to some music recommended by you (yes, you!), feeling inspired by 3D illustrations inspired by Picasso, checking out some new music released this past week and more. Enjoy the read!

💽 » Spiritbox - Eternal Blue
metalcore, rock, metal • 12 songs • 43 minutes
When was the last time you created enormous expectations for an upcoming album, and in the end, it was even better than you could ever anticipate? That’s exactly what happened on my first listening of Spiritbox’s new album Eternal Blue, and oh my goodness, was I blown away! My first contact with the Canadian band was exactly a year ago, upon the release of the incredible single Blessed Be, one of my favorites of the band. The song was a beautiful mix of beautiful clean vocals by vocalist Courtney LaPlante, catchy guitar riffs, groovy rhythms, and the right amount of aggressiveness during the breakdown. While (unfortunately) Blessed Be didn’t make the cut, it still is the perfect introduction to the band, which makes it more obvious once you go through the album as a whole. Although I was never the biggest fan of extreme vocals, Spiritbox seems to have found the perfect balance between melody and heaviness, and I’m all for it! From the opening with Sun Killer to the emotional closing track Constance (recommended on SS #10), Eternal Blue will certainly be on my end-of-the-year list of the best of 2021.

📺 » Wednesday Campanella - Melos
By now you may be tired of me talking about how much I enjoy and appreciate artists who mix a bunch of different genres on their music, but I just can’t help it! Wednesday Campanella is a Japanese group that was recently introduced to me by a co-worker, and I was completely sold right away. Melos, the song I was asked to try first, is a delicious mix of Brazilian music, jazz, pop, and electronic music, accompanied by great vocals from lead singer KOM_I. If you only have time to taste one thing from this newsletter today, please choose this one. I promise you won’t regret it!

📺 » Michael Kiwanuka - Beautiful Life
Singer/Songwriter soul man Michael Kiwanuka is back with another powerful new song. Beautiful Life integrates the soundtrack of the documentary “Convergence: Courage In A Crisis”, available on Netflix. Kiwanuka may not be a name you’re familiar with, so I highly recommend you checking out all of his discography, especially his 2019 album Kiwanuka, which won the prestigious Mercury Prize last year.

• After lots and lots of speculation, Adele finally announced her return with a brand new record. Following her tradition of naming her albums after her age when she wrote the songs, her new one will be called 30, and it’s out on November 19th, succeeding 2015’s smash hit 25. Listen to the new single Easy on Me.
• Peter Jackson’s ambitious Beatles documentary got another trailer, and it’s simply impossible not to get super excited about it. The Beatles: Get Back will be a 3 part series, available on Disney+ on November 25-27.
• After lots of anticipation and a few delays, looks like we’re now very close to finally listen to Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak’s debut album as Silk Sonic. Titled An Evening With Silk Sonic, the album will be out November 12th.
🎶 » Shared by Readers
I’m inaugurating a new section today, where I’ll be sharing music recommended by you, Shuffle Sundays readers! Once in a while, one of you replies to my emails with recommendations, and I want to turn it into something not only more official, but also beneficial to other people.
Colombian-born, Belgium-based Adri Vinchira’s new single Más Arriba is a great mixture of synth pop and hip-hop — recommended by the reader, friend, and fellow newsletter writer Florian Maganza;
Bilmuri’s new EP 400Lb Back Squat got me listening back to back with a huge smile on my face. There’s so much happening on their music that it would be impossible to try and describe. It goes from metalcore to dubstep in a split second, for example. — forever thankful to reader Joshua Punshon for introducing it to me!
