💽 » My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross, by Anohni and The Johnsons
avant-pop, soul, alternative • 10 songs • 41 minutes
After experimenting with a more electronic and experimental sound in her incredible solo album Hopelessness (2016), English-born singer-songwriter ANOHNI reunited with her band The Johnsons to release one of the most vulnerable and soulful albums I’ve heard in recent years. My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross (2023) is definitely not an easy journey, and it may take you a few tries to get through it, but it’s a truly rewarding one once you do it.
🎶 » Repetition, by Max Cooper
I had never heard of Max Cooper until a coworker recently showed me this music video implying that some of the visuals reminded him of my photography work, and that alone was enough reason for me to drop everything and check it out. If you’re into minimalist ambient electronic music and/or incredible (and trippy) visuals, please don’t sleep on this one!
🎶 » A Crooked Melody, by Holding Absence
From their third and amazing album The Noble Art Of Self Destruction (2023), A Crooked Melody is a perfect blend of rock and post-hardcore from the Welsh band Holding Absence. One of the catchiest choruses I’ve heard from last year with powerful vocals and instrumental performance.
