Old Friends, New Friends 👋🏼
Shuffle Sundays #49 • Adrienne Lenker, half•alive, Biffy Clyro, Franck Bohbot, & more!
Hello and welcome to Shuffle Sundays, a weekly newsletter with music recommendations to help you find your next obsession.
This week we’re listening to a contemporary folk album that could have been made back in the Laurel Canyon days, watching new videos from a promising contemporary alternative band and a veteran one, being inspired by some pastel colors photography, checking out some new music released this past week, and more. Enjoy the read!

💽 » Adrienne Lenker - Songs
acoustic • folk • singer/songwriter • 11 songs • 40 minutes
When not busy with her critically acclaimed and prolific band Big Thief, lead vocalist and guitarist Adrienne Lenker always finds time to work on her own (equally incredible) compositions. During the pandemic, Leneker rented a one-room cabin in the Massachusetts mountains to isolate herself for a month and work on what would later become Songs, her 5th solo album, which came about in a really casual way, according to her. The album came out just a day after Instrumentals, which can be considered a company record to Songs, as it was also conceived during her isolation period in the cabin. Two melancholic albums that also happen to be the most personal she’s ever put out in the world.

📺 » half·alive - Hot Tea
This is not the first (and probably will not be the last) time I mention how alternative band half·alive never ceases to amaze me. And here they are again with another great effort. Hot Tea is a deliciously catchy alternative tune that mixes indie rock with pop/trap beats, reminding me of some of the best moments of Joji’s Ballads 1 back in 2018. For the music video, footage of their tour mixed with the aways on point choreographies. The single is part of their upcoming album Give Me Your Shoulders, due in 2022. What an interesting band to follow!

📺 » Biffy Clyro - A Hunger In Your Haunt
And speaking of interesting bands to follow, I’m so happy that Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro has been finally getting the deserved attention in the rest of the world, some 20 years after their debut record came out. A Hunger In Your Haunt is part of their recently released 9th studio album The Myth of the Happily Ever After and finds the trio still in incredibly good shape, continuing to mix their alternative rock with lots of experimentations and progressive touches. If for whatever reason you’re still not familiar with them, lucky you, you have so much great music to catch up on!
