Hello and welcome to another issue of Shuffle Sundays!
Is it just me or is there a weird universe energy going on where everybody is feeling a little bit more lazy, lost, uncertain right now? It’s not exactly feeling down, blue or depressed, just a sense that it has been extra difficult to push ourselves lately. I say that because I’ve heard similar things from other people too, so I know it’s not just me going through this, even though most of the time it feels like it. As I’m sitting at my desk trying to write the opening of this week’s issue, I’m finding it the most challenging it has been, so far. But nobody said this would get easier, right?
So before I got myself even deeper into the impostor syndrome hole and skipped this week altogether, I decided to look back and reflect on why I started this Newsletter in the first place. Even though sharing recommendations of content with friends and family was something I’ve been doing for a long time, and I even had a blog dedicated to that ages ago, the idea of turning it into a weekly Newsletter really came after two crucial events: 1) taking the course ‘From Collector to Creator’, by Anne-Laure Le Cunff (of Ness Labs), and 2) re-reading…
📚 Steal Like an Artist, a trilogy by Austin Kleon
{something to read • books}
Unfortunately, I can’t remember the first time I’ve read “Steal Like an Artist”, the first book that kicked-off the now world-famous trilogy of books by the writer (who draws) Austin Kleon. But by revisiting the book recently, I was fascinated to see how fresh still feels, even after almost 10 years since its release. Like the other two subsequent volumes, this is a short and sweet reading experience that will stay in your mind for a really long time, especially if you are (like many people right now) someone looking to pursuing a creative practice, no matter what exactly that looks like. With the subtitle “10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative”, it’s almost a roadmap for you to follow step by step. As you start getting a bit comfortable with the “creating” part, you will naturally want to start sharing your work somewhere, unless you are following the path of Vivian Maier, which I assume you’re not, right? To make that happen, “Show Your Work” has pretty much all you need to stop thinking/worrying and start sharing! Released 2 years after the first volume, here you’ll find little tips and tricks to share your creative work around and become discoverable. Even though a lot of things changed on the internet since the book was released, all the ideas there are still pretty relevant and easily adaptable to our current times. And if you’re still hungry after reading both books, “Keep Going” is the perfect way to make sure you stay consistent and keep doing more and more of what you enjoy doing it. The subtitle “10 Ways to Stay Creative in Good Times and Bad” never made more sense than now.
📺 Lupin
{something to watch • tv series, 5 episodes}
I must confess that I have been on the fence about recommending Netflix’s new smash-hit French series Lupin (thank goodness this is not a Podcast, otherwise I’d be assassinating the pronunciation 😂). Not because I didn’t like it, after all, I practically binged all the 5 episodes currently available. And that’s exactly the reason for my uncertainty. Instead of the usual “seasons” format, what we have available right now are 5 episodes contained inside “part 1”, with the last episode ending in a major cliff-hanger, obviously. So as I’m writing this text, I still have no idea how much I will have enjoyed the show at the (real) ending of it.
That aside, Lupin (the series) is a retelling of the classic French story about Arsène Lupin, the world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise. It’s a classic mix of mystery, action, comedy, and drama that we’ve seen many times before, but that surprisingly looks fresh and extremely entertaining. My only reservation (without any spoilers) is that I wish each episode would contain its own storyline full of mysteries solved at the end while moving forward with the main story like successfully done by many series in the past. I think that not only it would keep it more interesting, but also much more fun to see as many escaping scenes as possible.

🎬 The King of Staten Island, by Judd Apatow
{something to watch • movie, 136min}
Did you ever watch a movie where you have a pretty good idea of what’s going to happen at the end, but you just keep watching because you are so attached to the characters that it doesn’t really matter? That’s exactly what happened to me while I was watching “The King of Staten Island”, the new movie by Judd Apatow.
It’s a comedy-drama with a storyline that we’ve all seen before many times, sort of a semi-biographical coming-of-age film, as an adaptation of the life of Pete Davidson, who you may be used to seeing more often at SNL.
Don’t let the whole “he spends his days smoking weed and dreaming of being a tattoo artist” on the synopsis take you away from a really sweet and emotional journey.

🗣 On a different note:
The Golden Globes just announced its List of Nominees for the 2021 ceremony, scheduled to happen on February 28.
Really enjoyed the recent episode of the podcast Song Exploder with the sisters HAIM breaking down their hit-song Summer Girl.

Another week full of releases, I'm particularly interested in checking the new albums from Foo Fighters, The Weather Station, Hayley Williams, Píncaro, and Supercolisor.
