With very rare exceptions, I was never really all that interested in deluxe or expanded versions of albums, even the ones I loved so much, but I’m so glad I decided to give it a chance to Caroline Polachek’s reissue of Desire, I Want to Turn Into You (2023).
The new version, titled Everasking Edition, features 8 additional tracks, including the previously unreleased Bang, a new version for Butterfly Net (featuring Weyes Blood), an acoustic version of I Believe, and more. For me, some of these new cuts not only made the listening experience more complete, but they are even better than some of the tracks on the original release. For some reason, Polacheck’s sophomore album didn’t have the same impact on me as her debut Pang (2019), although it showed up on many 2023 ‘Album of the Year’ lists around, but this new version definitely made everything more interesting!

Dirty Loops is a Swedish trio with a very unique sonic identity: they may sound too pop for metal fans, and at the same time too heavy for pop music fans. But that’s what makes them so interesting. It’s a mix of jazz fusion with pop-rock and lots of virtuous moments. Run Away was my first taste and it’s the perfect introduction to their world!

Another recent discovery for me was Icelandic musician Ásgeir with his single Borderland, out of his fifth studio album Time on My Hands (2022). If you’re into the music of artists like Bon Iver and Sigur Rós, you’ll feel instantly at home.

Keita Morimoto is a Japanese artist best known for his cityscapes and portraits painted with theatrical light that is reminiscent of Rembrandt and Edward Hopper. Check out his website or Instagram for more. Here are some favorites:
