The One and Lonely
🔀 Shuffle Sundays #74 • Terno Rei, Spiritbox, Carter Ace, Notion, Metroidvania, Davide Bartsalvemini, and more!
💌 » I’m excited to announce that I was selected to participate in Substack Grow, a series of workshops for writers ready to take their publications to the next level, exploring themes like goal setting, strategy, readership growth, pursuing financial independence, and much more. As I’m getting ready to reach an important milestone very soon, I have lots of ideas for transforming Shuffle Sundays into more than just a music recommendation newsletter. Stay tuned!
💽 » Gêmeos, by Terno Rei
rock, brazilian • 12 songs • 35 minutes
Gêmeos is the 4th studio album from the Brazilian rock band Terno Rei, and one of my favorites of 2022 so far, as well as my personal favorite from the band.
After acquiring a considerable success in the independent circuit with a sound that was heavily influenced by dream-pop and indie-rock, Gêmeos sees the band continuing to explore a more pop and embracing sound, started in the previous (and great) album Violeta (2019), putting them on the radar of a much wider audience, ready to conquer an even bigger space in the music industry.
The songs, in Portuguese, narrate the distresses of youth life with sunny arrangements that, at times, are able to camouflage the melancholic content of the lyrics.
🎶 » Constance (acoustic), by Spiritbox
One of my favorite songs (from one of my favorite albums) of 2021 got an incredibly beautiful acoustic version, recorded in what seems to be a church. Constance, from Spiritbox, is a tribute to lead singer Courtney LaPlante’s grandmother, Phyllis, who died a few years ago, and the director (of the original music video) Dylan Hryciuk's grandmother, Constance, who was battling the late stages of dementia at the time of recording the original video. An emotional rendition of an already touching song.
🎶 » The One and Lonely, by Carter Ace
Carter Ace was completely new to me when I first heard The One and Lonely 6 months ago, and I continue to go back to this track pretty often since then. It may be easy to see him as just a hip-hop artist, but he’s just another great example of a contemporary artist that is not attached to one single genre or label. (via 3by7)

🧩 » Random Bits
• as we’re approaching the half of the year (how!?!?), this is the perfect opportunity to grab my free Mid-year Review Notion Template, start reflecting on what happened so far, and realign your plans for the second semester.
• although I feel burned out from self-improvement/productivity content, I recently started reading the 168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think, recommended by my friend Fog Chaser on a recent chat where I was complaining about (the cliche of) not having enough time to dedicate to my own projects outside of my day job. I’m curious to see where the book will take me!
• can’t believe I’ve only played 3 of the 10 games on this list of Best Indie Metroidvania Games On The Nintendo Switch.
