💽 » Take Me Back To Eden, by Sleep Token
rock, metal, progressive, pop • 12 songs • 63 minutes
When the time came to think about my favorite music from 2023, there was absolutely no question about what my album of the year was, as nothing came even closer to Take Me Back To Eden, even though there were many albums I loved last year. Sleep Token has been on my radar since their first album Sundowning (2019), but it wasn’t until the first few singles from Take Me Back To Eden started to come out that everything clicked for me. While there are lots of bands currently mixing genres in their music, not many can do it in such a fresh and unique way as Sleep Token has been doing, going from metal to pop in a surprisingly seamless way. I have no idea what will come next, as the album marks the last chapter of a trilogy, but I sure hope they continue to push their boundaries and surprise us all.
🎶 » Houdini, by Dua Lipa
And speaking of pop music, Dua Lipa is back with Houdini, her first single of what seems to be the follow-up to her massive hit album Future Nostalgia (2020). The song picks up exactly where she left off and delivers another extremely catchy and well-executed disco-pop banger. Lipa recently said that Houdini is one of 97 (!!!) songs she wrote for her upcoming 3rd record, and it’s one of my most anticipated albums for sure.
🎶 » Together Forever, by STRFKR
From their upcoming seventh studio album Parallel Realms, Together Forever is the perfect indie-pop track if you’re nostalgic about some 2000s bands like Phoenix, Passion Pit, and Foster the People. It has everything to be a great sunny spring/summer album.
