We Got The Moves
🔀 Shuffle Sundays #90 • Electric Callboy, Whatever Mike, Magdalena Bay, Rakhmat Jaka Perkasa, and more!
Dear reader, I have a confession to make: there is a lot of music that I love and listen to but end up not sharing over here. And the reason is simple, sometimes I’m afraid that some of the music will scare readers away. But that doesn’t mean that what I share here is not music that I legitimately like, it’s just that sometimes I get into the trap of filtering my selections based on what I think will appeal to most people, instead of just sharing what I’m truly obsessed about. So here we go:
💽 » Tekkno, by Electric Callboy
metalcore / electronic • 10 songs • 31 minutes
Tekkno is the sixth studio album by the German rock band Electric Callboy (formerly known as Eskimo Callboy), and the one that pushed them to a much bigger and broader audience, especially outside of Germany.
Known as a band with a more relaxed approach to the genre that doesn’t take themselves too seriously, it’s great to see them finally having the success they deserve by distancing away from so many generic and repetitive bands in the scene out there.
It took me a while to finally get into their music, as the first couple of music videos got me paying much more attention to the comedic side of their music as opposed to enjoying the instrumental and melodies. I know that this will not be for everyone, but if you enjoy metal or heavy music in general, this is not only one of the best releases of the year, but also one of the most fun albums I’ve listened to in a long time!
🎶 » Word to the Trees, by Whatever Mike
There’s no question how much the pandemic changed so many people’s lives, but very few did what Whatever Mike did. Formerly known as Michael Blume, the singer-songwriter saw in it an opportunity to listen in a way they never had, leaving their record label, moving to the desert, digging deeply into meditation, and asking “who are you when no one is applauding?”. The powerful result came in the shape of Whatever Mike and their new project Word to the Trees, which got a beautiful animated video.
🎶 » Unconditional, by Magdalena Bay
From the deluxe version of their highly praised debut album Mercurial World, Unconditional is yet another deliciously fun synth-pop song with funk elements and great vocals from duo Magdalena Bay. If you missed the original version of the album last year, this is the best time to jump into their universe with both feet!
