💽 » Really From - Really From
indie rock, emo, math rock, jazz • 9 songs • 34 minutes
Really From is the third studio album of the Boston-based band of the same name1. Although they refer to their own sound as "indie jazz”, their music is just so much more than that. The first thing that caught my attention back in March of 2021, when the record was released, was the beautiful and intriguing album art. Being someone that loves to try new music purely by enjoying the artwork, I can’t say how excited I got when I first listened to this one. Really Form opens up with an atmospheric piano ballad accompanied by the beautiful voice of vocalist-keyboardist Michi Tassey, and slowly starts adding layers of what will then become a jazz-infused mixture of many elements that composes the band’s unique style. And even though at times there seems to be a lot going on at the same time, it never becomes overwhelming or pretentious, as it could easily be the case. And yeah, I’m a sucker for the sound of the trumpet, so this was a no-brainer to me!

📺 » Of Monsters and Men - Phantom
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their beloved debut album My Head Is An Animal, Icelandic indie folk-rock band Of Monsters and Men is releasing a commemorative version on the album with some previously unreleased tracks. One of them is Phantom, a delicate ballad that will bring you straight back to the sound that made them popular worldwide 10 years ago. On the same note, the music video takes us back in time to their gorgeous animated enigmatic characters, which populated especially the videos from the first two records. A true throwback to their origins!

📺 » Foo Fighters - Love Dies Young
Love them or hate them, the Foo Fighters have always had a great taste for funny music videos, and this is not an exception. In Love Dies Young, the latest single from the 2021 dancing album Medicine at Midnight, we follow everybody’s favorite coach Ted Lasso Jason Sudeikis coaching a very interesting and unexpected synchronized swimming team. The last part might be just a little bit over the top, but you just have to agree that it is a very fun(ny) video to watch, for a song that it’s not one of the best in the album, but that definitely grows when paired with the visuals.

• The nominees for the Grammys 2022 are out with a few interesting names in the mix, but mostly just the same artists nominated in most of the categories, which is a shame, to say the least. See the full list here.
• A new album from Adele is always a big event in the music industry, no matter how good it is. And even though I didn’t enjoy 30 as much as I was anticipating, it already became 2021’s best-selling album in the US, after only 3 days out.
• Bloc Party, one of the most interesting bands from the early 2000s rock revival, is back with a brand and great new single called Traps, which will be featured in their recently announced upcoming 6th studio album Alpha Games, out in April 2022. Listen to Traps here.
