💽 » Alice Caymmi - Imaculada
brazilian music, pop • 10 songs • 26 minutes
Similar to what happened when I first listened to Duda Beat’s sophomore album Te Amo Lá Fora, back in April, the first time I hit play at this one, it got me completely by surprise, as I was definitely not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. Imaculada is the 5th studio album by Brazilian singer and songwriter Alice Caymmi, the granddaughter of Dorival Caymmi, one of the most important names in Brazilian music history, and brings a delicious mix of traditional Brazilian rhythms with modern and exciting production, thanks to her co-producer Vivian Kuczynski, who I’ve recommended on my special issue Made in Brazil, back in March. In a year where more than half of my favorite albums are from women, Imaculada feels the perfect album to wrap things up as we get close to the last issue of 2021 next week.

📺 » Billie Eilish - Male Fantasy
And speaking of my favorite albums of 2021 here’s once again Billie Eilish with her brand new video for Male Fantasy, the track that closes her incredible sophomore album Happier Than Ever. Directed and edited by Eilish herself, the video shows a very lonely day-to-day life of someone struggling with depression, something so common in the music industry, but that so few people have the courage to talk about it so openly like this. The only mistake of Male Fantasy, the song, was being placed as the last song of an album that already has an amazing and powerful closure with its title track.

📺 » Odeon - Game
Back in Brazil, Odeon is a freshly formed and interesting rock band mixing many elements beyond what’s the genre is known for, including djent, progressive metal, R&B, and even Brazilian funk, putting them right on the top of new metalcore bands I’m excited to follow. Game is their first single bringing lyrics in Portuguese, combined with an extremely fun-to-watch music video, thanks to lots of chroma-key, as you can see in this behind-the-scenes video.
