Boy oh boy am I grateful for the Aviations recommendation. Iām very iffy on a lot of new prog and prog metal but these guys are the most exciting thing since Haken. And the video is just as brilliant. New Haken in 2023 too!
Amazing, right? This new Aviations track reminded me of a heavier version of The Reign of Kindo, and I'm all for it! Also, their 12 min track Outliers (from 2020) is a crazy ride.
And speaking of prog metal, Periphery never really got me, but their new single Atropos is so good!!

I haven't heard Periphery but I'll check it out. Regarding Haken, I would try two different albums. For sonic insanity and mind-blowing musicianship, try The Mountain. For something a bit more electronic-synthy, with heavily effected vocals and nods to '80s-era Rush, Affinity (2016) is a great choice. For my book, "Cockroach King" from The Mountain is their best song and one I play at least once a month. The music video for it is amazing. https://youtu.be/x7wwYmgQAmY
